Dreamseer, at the cost of his legs. |
Elijah Cohen was born and raised in Jerusalem, the third child in his family. His family wasn't particularly remarkable. They made a decent enough living, loved each other, and were all reasonably well-adjusted. If his older brother was the smart one, and his older sister was the creative one, Elijah was the active one, and while his brother was studying and rising to the top of his class and his sister was practicing the piano and mastering song after song, Elijah could usually be found outside. It almost didn't matter what the sport was -- if it involved moving around and chasing a ball, he played it and probably enjoyed it, although his favorites were always football and basketball. He did okay in school, but it was never really his thing, and after he finished high school he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces, opting to make a career out of it rather than just do the mandatory three years and then go on to something else. He took well to the military life, eventually winding up assigned to the recon unit of the highly decorated Golani Brigade. He was content with where he was -- life was dangerous, to be sure, but he was okay with it. Until the end of 1998, when he woke from a strange dream about an explosion in Hong Kong, told himself it was nothing, and went on duty as usual -- and the next thing he remembered, he was waking up in the hospital with both legs amputated above the knee due to an accident with a land mine. Since then, he's quit the army and started looking for the meaning of life in the bottom of a bottle. But that hasn't been helping much either, so he figures he might as well give that strange email a try. |
Elijah has never been the most positive guy, but nor has he been the most negative -- he's the kind of guy who just figures life is life, you get what you get, and that's that. He's had a harder time rationalizing that belief to himself lately, however, as he's never had it so strongly challenged, and so he remains somewhat bitter about his handicap. Although he's a bit of a foulmouth and he's been far more apt to take the cynical view of everything lately, he avoids taking it out on other people. It's not like it's their fault life's a bitch. |
Elijah is tall, although now that he's parked in a wheelchair you'd have a hard time guessing by looking at him. His hair is brown, kept short, with eyes to match. He doesn't smile as much as he used to. |
